Cancer Truth Note: #365
Seven years ago today I finished chemo. Then I learned that treatment is not the end of the journey. Surviving is JUST the beginning.
I really thought, “GREAT. I am done with this part. I should be back to full strength in 3 weeks and be fine for the rest of my targeted treatment.”
Boy was I wrong. My husband actually laughed out loud, when at week 4 I was saying, “Why am I not back to 100%?”
Surviving really is JUST the beginning. It takes time to recover from treatment and surgeries and the process can be exhausting!
Give yourself grace on the days that life feels hard. Ask for help when you need it. Take breaks to do fun things. Remember it takes time.
Speak up when people assume treatment is over and you are good to go. It is ok to say, ‘you know treatment kicked my butt and it is going to take time for me to be back to 100%.’
For today, I am grateful for these past 7 years. I have learned a lot. From my journey and the journeys of others.
Tell me what is your Surviving is JUST the beginning a ha?
