Cancer Truth Note: #113

Positivity does NOT cure cancer. Positive people may be able to take more positive actions more quickly for positive outcomes.

Cancer shaming has come up a few times in the comments as we have discussed different topics. This feels like one of those where it may come up again. People like to tell cancer patients to be positive. Let’s be very clear. Toxic positivity exists.

Optimism in the face of adversity is good. When I learned I had cancer, I had an inner knowing that I was going to go through whatever I needed to and come out on the other side. It wasn’t all roses and fluffy bunnies or puppy dogs. There were hard days, days that challenged me. My default tends toward more optimistic positivity. That definitely does not exist in vacuum, it did keep me moving forward and helped me process the challenging feelings.

What is your go to state? Do you lean on the side of optimism or pessimism? No judgment, we all have the potential for either or both at any time. Drop your current state in the comments.
