Cancer Truth Note: #131

Everyone loves a drama llama.

This is a fact. The success of the bachelor and the bachelorette is living proof. Everyone loves the drama llama.

I often see on social media, the challenging or messy posts, posted in the midst of the messy situation get a lot of looks, likes, comments, etc. You name it, they get it. I have always been a fan of sharing my mess privately and not posting on social media before I have processed it. I think my first cancer social media post was “Chemo is done. That is all.” It was on my last day of chemo 9 months after my cancer diagnosis.

Please don’t misunderstand me here. This is not judgment.  I have an old friend who suffered a tremendous loss last year. She posts photo arrays often. I think that is a lovely way to remember and process grief in a way that is completely authentically her. She also specifically did not post in the time leading to the loss because people can be cruel and judgemental (hopefully) without realizing it and that was not something she could process. So she kept the circle small.

I have a question for you this week. Have you posted in the messy middle? Did it help you process? Did it help you avoid processing? Do you process privately and present a more curated view of the situation?
