Cancer Truth Note: #139

The “new normal” is not just a COVID-19 buzz phrase. It is often an unexpected reality for cancer survivors.

COVID-19 made the “new normal” a bit of a reality for everyone, at least for a little while. My husband had never worked from home. Fortunately, he was on a contract where he could when things closed down for COVID-19. He also found that he loved it! If he could make that his new normal he would in a second! In this case the improvements to quality of life were huge!

As cancer survivors our new normals may also be forced on us in the beginning. We may not bounce back as quickly. We may need to start our day later or end it earlier. Exercise can be slow going and frustrating if you had an exercise practice before cancer.

Prioritizing your wellbeing may be a new thing, I would argue it is a valuable normal thing we can all embrace.

What new normal did you embrace, resist, or both?
