Cancer Truth Note: #153

by | May 4, 2023 | Cancer Truth Note

Sometimes the voices in our head, with the very good intentions of keeping us safe, are actually keeping us stuck.

 Have you ever noticed this?

Often we may not even know where that voice is coming from.

You may remember my hospital story. Immediately following my mastectomy surgery I couldn’t stand up out of bed. I was sitting on the edge of the bed frozen. Now I am a mover. I am in good shape. There was no logical reason that my legs refused to move. Because of this I was able to recognize that the last time my body felt the way it felt at that time was immediately following a car accident.

I have often told people getting ready for mastectomy surgery that when you wake up it feels a bit like seat belt trauma from a car accident. Usually people contact me after the fact and agree with that description.

The last time I felt that way I felt sitting on the side of that bed, I had a punctured my knee joint in a car accident. I couldn’t stand without assistance. Once I realized how my brain was trying to protect me I was able to stand up because in this case, that protection wasn’t necessary.

Have you noticed the voice in your head holding you back? How can I help you get unstuck?
