Cancer Truth Note: #36

You CAN DO whatever you set your mind to. 1. Decide to take the leap. 2. Plan the work. 3. Work the plan and adjust as needed.  4. Celebrate your achievements.

In 2010 I trained for the Mickey Marathon with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. My cousin Alyson was going through treatment for Lymphoma, and it was a way I could support her from afar. As the race approached, I learned of the Goofy Challenge: half marathon on Saturday, marathon on Sunday. It was too late to change my registration. I thought someday I will do one more marathon. I will come back and do Goofy

Fast forward to 2016. December 2nd, I finished chemo and declared I would train in 2017 for Disney’s marathon weekend, the first weekend in January 2018. On Valentine’s Day 2017 when I signed in to register for Goofy I discovered the Dopey Challenge. The difference between the two was a 5k Thursday and a 10k Friday in addition to the half and the full marathons. I was in.

I downloaded Jeff Galloway’s Disney training guide for the Dopey Challenge, set my plan and got to work. Every morning of the 4 days of races I celebrated crossing the finish line in 14.5-minute miles. I won every morning I crossed that finish line. Where are you winning today?
