Cancer Truth Note: #81

by | Feb 21, 2023 | Cancer Truth Note

When you know what to expect from tests, treatments, appointments, etc. we short circuit the fear that can come up when we are unprepared.

One thing is for certain, the road to a cancer diagnosis is paved with miles of tests before we have all the details needed to make decisions.

I found very early on when the communication about what a test was going to look like was good, it was a much less stressful experience. When a tech says I am going to do X then step out to get the radiologist, you don’t stress out when they actually go get the radiologist. It is a normal part of the procedure.

Now I know for some people less is more and they would rather not know. So this is one of those areas where I think it is ok to advocate for yourself. For me I want to know what my procedures look like so I am prepared and I can think through any questions I may have. For others who would rather not know anything I think it is ok to ask for that as well.

Which camp are you in: Tell me all the details. OR I don’t want to know the details, just give me the bare bones facts?
