Cancer Truth Note: #88

A cancer diagnosis causes people to reimagine their life choices.

This is one, I think everyone can relate to though not always straight away. I have talked with lots of people who handled their diagnosis more like a project in the beginning. At some point it all sinks in and you decide that Andy in Shawshank had the right idea… get busy living or get busy dying. Then you discover that perhaps your life is set up to meet other people’s expectations and no longer your own.

I have always loved traveling and it has been a priority for me. Post cancer I find ways to do the bigger trips that are often put off until later when there is more time. In fact, I met someone this week doing exactly this. As cancer survivors we are clear, tomorrow or 20 years from now may not be promised. Eat the dessert first.

What reimagining have you done? Was it easy or uncomfortable?
