Cancer Truth Note: #89

People ask cancer survivors the craziest questions.

I heard some doozies. One person asked me if I was going to exercise more. That was fun. The biggest theme was around food. I was asked very early on why I was having surgery and following the recommendations from western medicine instead of changing to a raw food diet. I am celiac and have a dairy allergy. I have a fairly strict diet and I was a great weight. So, I found it odd that people asked questions like this as often as they did.

Now the PC answer to this question is that there are NO peer-reviewed, random control trials testing a raw diet curing cancer on its own. You know why? For these trials to exist a quantity of people have to agree to eat a raw diet and receive none of those other treatments. Eat only raw and NO treatment. Harvard has been trying to run the study. A couple of years ago I read they were having trouble enrolling subjects. No one was willing to completely forgo treatment.

The less PC, but still accurate response, is how did that go for Steve Jobs? A smart man who was on multiple liver transplant lists, because he had the means to get to that many locations in the time necessary. He waited too long to follow the recommendations of his medical team.  It is impossible to say what the outcome of medical interventions may have been if he followed their recommendations  sooner. Don’t get me wrong here I am a fan of green juice, but I also know Herceptin played a huge role in my treatment and my survivorship.

What was the craziest question someone asked you?
