Cancer Truth Note: #162

A cancer diagnosis may be a catalyst to “get your affairs in order.” Is this a silver lining or a dark cloud?

Whether those words were used or not, getting our affairs in order can actually make us feel lighter and less stressed. When the junk mail gets thrown away before it makes it to a pile, paperwork is up to date, your checkbook is balanced, fill in whatever “administrative” tasks cause you stress, our environments are less stressful. My friend Kerry Thomas and I talked about the five kinds of clutter in episode 51 of Unspoken Cancer Truths (https://fitnessdesignsolutions.com/get-organized-and-defeat-the-stress-of-physical-and-mental-clutter/).

Getting our affairs in order can be a silver lining. When I was preparing for my surgery, the first step in my treatment plan, I knocked out several tasks that I just had not been paying attention to. By doing those before surgery they were done. I wasn’t looking at a pile of stressful paper I may or may not have had the ability to deal with.

How can getting your affairs in order be a silver lining? Could hiring an organizer like Kerri to help us release unneeded things help?
